Black Watch - finally gets to London

After abortive previous attempts by National Theatre of Scotland to take "Black Watch" to London, The Stage is reporting The Barbican will be hosting it in June 2008.

After some tough investigative reporting (OK, I used the event calendar on The Barbican's website), it looks like it will be there from the 22 June to 26 July 2008. However there are no further details at the time of this post.

The Stage also mentions that "Black Watch" will also be returning to Scotland, so another opportunity for those who've not yet seen it.

That's great news that London gets to see Black Watch.

Pity it is 2008 before it gets there though, as there was much that was very topical in 2006 and early 2007 which may be less so by then.

Funny how plays like 'The Unconquered' (which I really struggled with - as did The Times critic)manage to get London runs, but the best of Scottish theatre finds problems getting a venue.

I thought 'The Unconquered' was one of the best plays I've seen this year.

To be fair to both the NTS and London, I believe the difficulties were more due to problems finding a suitable venue rather than a lack of willing. The Guardian expands on the previous problems.

As for "The Unconquered", I now wish I'd seen it. It seems to provoke strong reactions both ways!

David - good luck with Antigone. We're hoping to fit it in to our plans.
